Running Memory Award Sets

A TigersTime Studios Exclusive!

Framed 5x7 Plaque
If you haven't done so previously, this may a good opportunity to entice a sponsor(s) to cover the cost of your awards.  Their logos will be seen everyday by a highly desirable demographic.

Are you missing an advertising opportunity?  The race brochures I receive never advertise the awards.  Some say 'Unique Awards', whatever that means.  Those two words prompt a phone call or e-mail to ask.  Many of us who are serious about racing really do care about the recognition.  I patronize races that have unique, memorable prizes.

Today's awards, judging from my experience, are a far cry from what we raced for twenty years ago.  Yes, many of us race for awards and not just against the clock or for a particular charity.  I haven't run but two or three races in the past five years that presented anything to write home about.  Most awards were generic medals, glassware, off the shelf merchandise (I can buy it if I want it), or the notorious gift certificate.  I understand the economics and the simplicity of such award choices.  I would like an award one cannot buy.

In response you might ask, "What makes these commemoratives different?  You're offering them to any runner."  That's true - as an opportunity for them to commemorate that special race.  In the same respect, a person can go into any trophy shop and purchase an engraved trophy, plaque, or glass.  There is an element that makes these commemoratives special from an award standpoint.  You can add your race logo, your club logo, your own special photo background, and your sponsors.  I cannot do that.  No personal commemorative purchased by any runner will have featured sponsors or club/race logos.  That makes these commemoratives, when presented as awards, special.  Your particular award cannot be purchased.

Do you want your race to be remembered?  Even more important, do you want your participant to remember your race?  Present a memorable award!  I ran the Kiawah Road Race year after year in hopes of winning one of their exquisite pelicans.  I did manage to win two.  The ornate commemoratives I designed have a wealth of information, they're colorful, and I don't believe they will end up in a drawer or box.   And if you are a good promoter, you will be able to find a sponsor(s) to cover the cost, which is quite reasonable.  As a veteran runner, I would like to touch on some issues about today's racing with an eye towards increasing participation.  If you would like to read my recommendations, please click here.

One thing I cannot reproduce effectively on this site is the actual look of the laminated running memory. It's quite nice.  One thing I would consider is framing the commemorative for the overall male, female, and masters winners.  That would really be nice for a pre-race display.  No glass or matting necessary.  Or you might consider a fully laminated plaque for the top male and female.

Take a look!  Free Certificates for all your event participants.

These samples were done to show how your award advertising might look on your brochure.  Obviously printing in full color would be optimal, but if you use spot colors, one of which will always be black, you can still get a nice look.  You could direct runners to your Website to see a full color, larger rendition.  I have included the above four images (high resolution) in the photos.zip file if you want to use one.  Or I can send you a high resolution image of your race's commemorative once your design is completed.

Commemorative Plaque 2 At present you can choose between two designs.  The above design (Award 1) is available in an 8" x 10" or   5" x 7" format.  The design shown at the left (Award 2) is available only in an 8" x 10" format.  Shown in simulated red frame.

Paper Certificate

The first ad example mentions matching designer certificates.  Using these will give your sponsors more exposure, and they will give recreational runners a notable award they may never receive.  Read more about these free commemoratives here.

The following downloads offer examples, instructions, and a promotional flyer to show your sponsors.  I would recommend printing the flyer on premium glossy photo paper using your printer's best or photo setting.  I would do the same if other pages are to be used in your presentation.

Sponsor Note:  As you may have read on the opening page, proceeds from the sales of these commemoratives benefit the Afghanistan and Iraq Freedom Reigns Memorial.  I am the president of Freedom Memorials, Inc.  As a veteran runner, I designed these commemoratives as a way to help fund the memorial.  This may make a big difference when you approach potential sponsors about supporting these awards.  There are downloadable graphics and papers in our Press Room on the memorial site if you think they might help you promote sponsorship.  In addition, I would like you to consider holding a race to raise funds for the memorial.

Composite Plaques & Frames

If you consider having the commemoratives mounted or framed, I want to offer some considerations and figures.  Mounting the commemorative on composite/wood or framing it can be expensive.  If you have sponsor backing for this option, that would be a very nice touch.  I work with a local trophy supplier here in Raleigh and a large discount framing company in Rocky Mount, NC.  I put together some pricing.

I recently added a dye-sublimation plaque option.  I had a lot of difficulty finding a company with the expertise to render the colors accurately using the sublimation process.  I finally located one in Kentucky.  They do a wonderful job.  The sublimation process does not offer the UV stability of the archival prints, but it is still quite good.  The detail is stunning.  If you like dye-sublimation, these are a good choice.

Fully laminated plaques are expensive.  They would probably be too costly to offer as age group awards. One for the top male and female would be nice.  I offer these for an 8" x 10"  commemorative only because the price is virtually the same.  A framed or mounted laminated commemorative is a good option.  I am now trying to locate an overseas supplier for frames so I can keep the costs as low as possible.  If you have just a few items to frame, it would be more cost effective to buy a ready made frame from a local discount store or get them to make an in kind donation.  But if you want a limited quantity, we can provide that service.
